DIRECTOR OF UPK-5 INSTRUCTION
Full time, 12-month, Probationary Position
New York State Certification Required:
School District Leader (SDL), School Administrator Supervisor (SAS), or School Building Leader (SBL)
Additional Certification Preferred:
NYS Reading Certification N through 6 or N through 12
NYS Teaching Certification N through 6
Previous Administrative Experience Preferred
Starting July 1, 2024 or as soon as the successful candidate is available

TITLE: UPK THROUGH 5 DIRECTOR OF INSTRUCTION
Qualifications
1) New York State Certification as a Building and/or School District Administrator.
2) New York State Reading Certification N through 6 or N through 12.
3) New York State Teaching Certification N through 6.
4) Demonstrated teaching ability in working with UPK through 5 students.

Job Goals
1) Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the UPK through 5 instructional program in accordance with State and District standards and policies.
2) The UPK through 5 Director of Instruction provides instructional leadership support in
conjunction with the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Building Principals.
3) To strive for quality and promote pride in all District endeavors. To fulfill the Mission of the
District.
Responsibilities
1.) Supervises/coordinates all UPK through 5 curriculum and instruction activities of classroom teachers, in conjunction with Instructional Coaches, Grade Level Leaders, Principals, Directors and the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction.
2) Directs and coordinates planning, development, implementation and evaluation of K
through 5 mathematics and science programs with appropriate personnel.
3) Collaborates with other administrative personnel in providing an effective and economical
program of instruction. This includes ensuring programmatic clarity and vertical alignment with 6-12 administrators and teacher leaders.
4) Monitors students' performance to assist teachers in meeting student
needs and administrators in determining program revisions and/or adjustments.
5) Provides effective communication among grades, buildings, and administrators
6) Assists the staff in appraising textbooks and other instructional materials and their impact
on student achievement.
7) Assists in coordinating and/or providing a comprehensive in-service program with the Director of Professional Learning
8) Keeps the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Building Principals advised of
program needs and promptly informs them of all major problems. This includes the ongoing evaluation of student data and meeting reporting demands required by NYSED.
9) Attends meetings relevant of curricula areas and responsibilities.

10) Stays abreast of the latest research, trends, and developments in these fields.
11) Participates in appropriate local, state, and national professional meetings.
12) Works collaboratively with District administrative personnel to identify instructional
priorities that have budgetary implications. Establishes budget priorities to present to
Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Building Principals when requested.
13) Participates in the selection of new personnel.
14) Encourages experimental and innovative programs that will improve instruction as
demonstrated by improved student achievement.
15) Assists Building Principals in assessing and evaluating teachers and their impact on
improved student achievement.
16) Supports the APPR process by conducting observations and evaluations of assigned staff members.
17) Carries out any other assigned duties and/or responsibilities which may be deemed
appropriate by the Superintendent of Schools (or designee) and the Board of Education.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction
in accordance with Board policy.
Terms of Employment
In accordance with terms and conditions of the negotiated agreement with the Administrative
Association.
